Project description
The genetic part
The goal is to create a sizeable cohort among the Quebec population by inviting people who already did a genetic test with a private company to share their data with the scientific community.
Researchers in return are committed to offer accessible and personalized scientific content to the participants. In addition of becoming a ressource of choice for many specialists in various fields, CopaQ will be the only ressource in Quebec that allows a greater understanding of your genetic and genealogical (if you choose the option) data by offering a popularized interpretation of them.

The genealogical part
In addition to the genetic part of the project, the people who are interested can share their genealogical data. They will integrate the BALSAC population database.
The BALSAC database regroup genealogical data covering the province of Quebec in its entirety since the beginning of the european settlement up to the contemporary period. This represent more 400 years of familial occupation on the territory!

A gateway to collaborative work
Thanks to CopaQ’s plateform, everyone can contribute directly to the enrichment of genealogical data. The activities on the website will offer to reframe and transcribe civil records, as well as the linkage of genealogical data.
Together, the people who partake in the activities of CopaQ allow the improvement of data that will be used in scientific research.
A privileged access to BALSAC's data!
For the first time in 50 years of existence, the BALSAC database is finally accessible to the public! It is now possible for you to research among all the individuals within the BALSAC database, going from the beginning of New France in the 17th century until the first decades of the 20th century.
Many search engines are available for you to use (by entrees, by records or by individual form). Never before has it been so simple to find ancestors!
